Vinayan to make a movie on rebellious woman Nangeli
Veteran filmmaker Vinayan is all set to direct a movie on rebellious woman Nangeli, who lived in the early 19th century in Travancore. Nangeli is believed to be an Ezhava woman who chopped her breast off herself after refused to pay the breast tax, a tax imposed by landlords on lower caste Hindu women if they wanted to cover their breasts in public. Following her death, the breast tax system was nullified in Travancore.
The movie, titled as Irulinte Naalukal, is expected to start rolling soon. Vinayan is currently busy with the post-production works of his next release Chalakkudikkaran Changathi, a movie based on the life of late actor Kalabhavan Mani.
